EMPHATI – kick-off event ‘Using PHA tuned for injection moulding’

How can PHA-based biopolymers and PHA blends with natural fibers be better optimized for injection moulding? What opportunities and challenges arise in the application of PHA in injection moulding? What are the experiences of the project partners regarding application in existing processes, product ranges and LCA? These and other questions will take center stage at the free kick-off event for the project “EMPHATI – ecofriendly materials from polyhydroxyalkanoates tuned for injection moulding” on April 19, 2023 in Bad Laer.

Application of PHA in injection moulding.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a special group of bacterially produced thermoplastic biopolymers. The goal of the cross-border project EMPHATI is therefore the development of new sustainable and environmentally friendly products based on PHA/PHA blends with natural fibers for selected applications in injection moulding and 3D printing in the participating production companies. An important aspect is the formation of a cross-border cluster along the PHA value chain that connects actors and enables knowledge transfer. An open section should allow for feasibility and pilot studies.
