EMPHATI – PHA as a Sustainable Material for Injection Molding
At Ecoras, we are working on the EMPHATI project (Eco-friendly Materials from PolyHydroxyAlkanoates Tuned for Injection Molding), funded by Interreg. This project, in collaboration with partners from Northeast Netherlands and Northwest Germany, focuses on increasing knowledge about PHA (PolyHydroxyAlkanoates).
EMPHATI aims to improve production methods for PHA, conduct thorough life cycle analyses, and promote collaboration and knowledge exchange. A key goal is to bridge the gap between the production and demand for PHA, encouraging end-users and brand owners to consider PHAs as a biobased alternative.
Early 2024, we organized a workshop with 3N Kompetenzzentrum in Werlte, Germany. During this workshop, we discussed the main factors for successfully promoting the use of PHAs by SMEs. Gabriela Maldonado and Klaske Geene used card sets to identify and prioritize various factors. We found that knowledge sharing among technical staff and an understanding of PHA benefits by sales and marketing teams are crucial.
Thanks to the participation of our partners, including 3N Kompetenzzentrum, Bekuplast, TKT Plastics, NHL Stenden, and Hochschule Bremen, we can continue to work towards stimulating both the demand for and supply of PHA.
