Resource flow study Northern Netherlands
In 2018, we joined forces with Amsterdam-based Metabolic to map material flows in the northern Netherlands.
Background
This study was set up as a follow-up to several previous studies, such as the opportunities within the biobased economy in Noord4Bio and a similar flow study for the province of Friesland. The results of the substance flow analysis in the Northern Netherlands were presented to the participants of the study on Thursday, May 31, 2018.
Raw materials, residual streams and waste streams have been mapped for the construction, agriculture, waste and chemical sectors. By entering into new collaborations, continuous monitoring and enabling these parties to find each other, major steps can be taken towards a circular economy in 2030. To further concretize the task for the sectors, nine transition paths have been named. These nine paths are the first step towards a timeline and roadmap. The goal is to find ownership for these (and other) transition paths among companies, organizations, knowledge institutions and governments to actually take these steps.
